Originally from the area, Anna Wollenschlager went away to Eastern Illinois University, where she received her BFA, before returning to ISU to  pursue an MFA in painting. Since completing her graduate studies, Wollenschlager has lived and worked in Bloomington. She has taught for ISU and has been an instructor at MCAC since fall of 2002, teaching both drawing and painting classes for adults.

Anna uses traditional painting techniques mixed with surprising choices of color and composition to depict images from her everyday environment. Centralized compositions, back lit forms, and varied reflective surfaces elevate seemingly ordinary places and objects into distilled moments of heightened awareness. Wollenschlager’s quiet images contain the reflective contemplation of a chain of events realized in a single instant. It is through this intense engagement with her surroundings that Wollenschlager establishes a connection and understanding to her world.
