Co-sponsored by Glenn and Oakland Schools in B/N, Peace is
Cool Club, and International Collection of Child Art of ISU
This exhibit aims to increase intercultural understanding
between children in Israel, in Palestine, and in Bloomington-Normal.
Nazareth and Ramallah Sister Cities has been sponsoring children and teacher
exchanges since 1997. The art teacher in Ramallah involved with this
project, Maha Dabeet, plans to visit Bloomington-Normal in June and July.
The teacher in Nazareth, Kamel Barghouti, visited Bloomington-Normal last
summer.
The exhibit consists of around 50 art pieces in such media
as watercolor, chalk, acrylic, and woodcut by children from K through 6th
grade in 4 schools--Al Kastal in Nazareth, Israel; Future School in
Ramallah, Palestine; Glenn School in Normal; Oakland School in Bloomington.
Exhibit places are McLean County Arts Center, May 3-17,
Children’s Discovery Museum, May 19-29, and Interstate Center, May 31-July
5.
Children have interpreted their favorite animal as pets, zoo
animals, animals in the wild, and imaginary animals. Colors and designs are
rich and imaginative. Among fascinating images, there is a monkey and a cat
you will never forget.
