The McLean County Arts Center invited Michael Dubina to exhibit his most
recent artworks as part of its 75th anniversary celebration of the Annual McLean
County Amateur Art Competition-Exhibition. Dubina won the Merwin Medal for Best
of Show in the 1986 Amateur Exhibition. Dubina's Merwin Medal winning artwork is
on display in the lobby area through March 30.
Michael Dubina studied at Illinois State University, receiving his BFA. in 1986. Since graduating, his work has been exhibited in New York,
Chicago, Houston, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Japan. His watercolors have been
exhibited for seven consecutive years in "Watercolor U.S.A.," at the Springfield
Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri.
With oils and watercolors, Dubina paints the Illinois landscape. His
works, often described as luminous and romantic, capture the voluminous skies,
stretching fields, and iconic trees emblematic of the expansive Illinois
horizon. For the exhibition, Dubina created new oil paintings and watercolors,
and unveils four of his largest watercolors to date.
