Kids' Summer Art Camps and Classes

(All classes are for students entering the grade levels listed.)

Kids & Clay - Grades 1-3 & 4-6

with Joe Hooten 

Play with clay for an entire week! Each day you will complete a new project - from relief tiles and coiled pots to throwing on a wheel. You will experience many processes and have a lot of fun.   Return to MCAC to glaze your work during Glaze Dayz: Sat., June 21 or Sat., August 2, from 10-12pm.  Don’t forget: dress for a mess!

Masks - Grades 6-9 & 10-12

Utilizing paper mache and plaster gauze, students will be introduced to sculptural building methods and mask design.  Participants will imagine, build and paint a hard mask which can be worn or used as a decorative wall ornament.  Traditional uses of masks will be discussed.  Dress to make a creative mess!

Artrageous Art Camp - Grades 1-3 & 4-6

Make art this summer you can enjoy all year. Create a variety of both two and three dimensional art works including drawings, sculptures and paintings. Visit our gallery and view exhibitions for inspiration.  Repeats welcome, all projects are new! On the last day of camp, family and friends are invited to an art exhibition. Register now, this is our most popular art camp-it fills fast!

Start With Art: Kinder Clay - Ages 3-5

with Peggy Finnegan

Bring your child to MCAC for Kinder Clay this summer and learn together!  The class is open to children with an accompanying adult.  We provide the clay, tools and all the necessary expertise; you bring your child and a bit of enthusiasm.  The best part: We clean-up the mess! 

2 Classes per session, $20.00/15.00 Members (includes materials)

Mixed Media Sculpture - Grades 6-8 & 9-12

Work with clay, wood, plaster, wire, found objects and more to create your own three-dimensional sculpture!  This course is ideal for any young artist who is interested in learning more about 3-D design and creating sculptures with a wide variety of materials and techniques. Work from the real world and from your imagination to create your own original art.

Cartoons & Monsters - Grades 4-6 & 7-9

From classic comics to Anime and Godzilla to Alien, participants will explore a variety of materials and techniques as they learn the history and techniques of comic illustration. Learn to plan story lines, develop caricatures and compose scenes as you discover different illustration media. Some drawing experience recommended.

Beginning Drawing: Grades 1-3 and 4-6

What have you drawn this summer?  Build your drawing skills and expand your creativity!  Students will be introduced to a variety of drawing techniques during this 3-day class.  Young artists will explore the elements of artistic composition and 2-D fundamentals while they draw natural subjects.

Drawing for High Schoolers

Are you looking for a new way to express yourself?  Explore your creativity through traditional and contemporary approaches to the process of drawing.  Students will be introduced to various drawing techniques that emphasize new approaches to 2-D media.  No previous experience needed, all high school aged artists welcome.
